no rear defrost or license place light

I searched but couldn't really find much. my 2000 xj sport has a non-working rear defroster, and a non working rear license plate light. The rear wiper does work, and the light on the rear defrost switch does work. Are they on the same fuse? Is this a common problem? Any suggestions? Thanks a ton.

Thanks, I didn't know what PDC stood for. I checked all the fuses and everything is good. Any other ideas?

Are the lights working in the back? I'd check out a ground.

Yeah, the lights work in the back and so does the rear wiper. weird huh?

ended up taking it to a shop in Bellevue. $90 diagnostic fee found that the bendy wires going to the hatch were faulty and $180 in labor had them fixed up. I know it sounds like a lot, but wiring and electrics have never been something I was very comfortable with...I can do suspension, tune ups, even timing chains in a VR6, but stay away from electrics
