Check Engine Light

My 2000 cherokee just rolled over 52000 miles and the check engine light came on?:( Any ideas on what might be going on? Do I need a dealer to look at it? I heard that Schucks will scan for a code for you?
 
Generally, any autoparts store will pull codes for you. You can also find reasonably cheap scanners that you can use and reset your MIL.
