How much work would it take to put a five speed tranny from a 91 into a 98 that currently has an auto?

well your transmission and that ax15 from the 91 are both 23spline with short input. thats a start. you could find a 5spd in the junk yard and get the pedal, Get a new master cylinder, slave. find the right bellhousing..
