Gear Install - Question

Ok I am about to do a gear install and the new pinion has a funky number.

Old Pinion

New Pinion

Where to start???

Those really only come into play if you are using a pinion depth measuring tool (expensive)

I have always determined the corect pinion depth by the pattern alone and avoided the expensive tool.

Well then since the numbers are so similar I will start with the same amount and incread or decrease as needed.
