Tightening U-bolts

I had to replace one of the U-bolt on the rear (D-44) of my XJ… the specs said to tighten to 75 Ft.lb.

The inside U-bolt torqued to 75 but the outer one started bending the plate on top of the spring and hasn’t clicked the torque wrench yet… do I keep tightening it and just let the metal bend?

WAY too tight.
FSM calls for 44-59 ft lbs.My 96 FSM calls for 52 ft lbs.
I like to bring them snug and then take 1 turn on each nut until tight.

sorry
maybe I should have put this in modified tech...

I have a RE 5.5" lift...

I bought the u-bolts from Kragen -- they are for lifted and lowered vehicles...

the packaging said to torque to 75-80 ft lbs...

youll need to do it again in a few days since they stretch out
