I've replaced the speed sensor, the wiring for it from the sensor to the main loom in the engine compartment, and now the instrument cluster. The speedo STILL works occasionally :explosion . Does anyone have an idea what I can do next? Where is the ground location from the plug for the instrument cluster? That's all I can think of. All other gauges work fine.
Thanks

Have you checked the speedo drive gear? There is a cable for the speedo that enters the driver-side of the trans with a bolt to hold the plug in. Pull it out and see if there are any teeth left. There are pics somewhere showing this. I had to change gears to make mine more accurate after an axle swap by a PO.

Thanks, I'll be working on it this weekend. I can check it out then.
I haven't rotated the housing at all, just swapped out the sensors. Hopefully this means a new gear and done.
Anyone know if the gears are different between a 231 and a 242?
