231 breather hose?

i changed the fluid in my 231 transfercase today and noticed a metal breather pipe sticking out the top. should there be a hose or something attached to this pipe? right now it is open and i dont want water or mud to get into my transfercase.

Yup...should be, prbly hanging close by.
