i drive a '92 cherokee laredo 4x4 that has been making a loud clicking/grinding noise lately. it happens mostly at 1100 RPMS after it shifts to 2nd gear. it also does it right before i come to a complete stop while braking. the sound is definately coming from somewhere at the right front. also it has a constant whining noise at all speeds. i really have no idea what it could be. i'm thinking it has something to do with the axle. any suggestions?

Possible sources:

1. bad axle u-joint
2. bad wheel bearing/hub
3. loose/missing brake caliper bolts

Time to jack up the wheel, take off the tire, and do some detailed examination............

i have an '01 XJ with the same problem coming from the right front at 1900 rpm after shifting to second. but it only happens at around 1900rpms and some times it makes the noise while stopped and in park
