Can this tire carrier be modified?

Can a Mopar swing out spare tire carrier for a pre-97 Cherokee be modified to fit a 2001? How much modification would be needed?
 
NO, you will rip the body apart, especialy if you put anything bigger than a stock tire on
 
anything can be modified, results will vary
