Does anyone know if the 4cyl and 6cyl 91+ AW4's are interchangable?

Bellhousing patterns are different. The torque conv. is probably different also. Do you have one available? They are not common and some claim they don't exist. I have seen one in a MJ from CA. You may be able to just swap the bell and torque conv. but I'm not sure of any other differences.

do you have a 4cyl AW4? If you do and are getting rid of it I might know someone interested.

nah one of my friends was wondering and I didn't know the answer.
I don't know if they are the same , BUT I do know Toyota 4runner used the same trans with a different bellhousing, but with a RH drop Tcase (actually, a couple of them) I have one of those for rebuild in Seattle. Trans shifted funny, but tcase was still good (it's integral)
May be the answer for those with CJs wanting to go auto (but it's still pretty long)

yeah I also know they were used in the late 80s early 90s for the supra. I'm guessing if you change the bellhousing like stated it would work.
