tomken frustration

I got the tomken transfer case skid for 97-98 cherokee and i go to put it on and the giant spacer in the middle where u have to put a hole in the cross member must be too long. So i cut it and now one hole doesnt line up because the skid is touching the crossmember. Has anyone else had this problem? what did you do to fix it.
