I have an alternator that works perfectly fine on the bench, but when installed in the XJ (88'), it is only putting out 12 volts. I have had this problem before, and it has to do the circuit that goes throught the idiot light.

Can someone tell me where the resistor is?, in the "L" curcuit that is referenenced by this link? Delco-Remy CS130

If you have a fax, drop me a PM with your fax number. Poking through the FSMs last night I saw something relating to voltage and instrument clusters. Not sure if it applies to the '88 but I can send it on for you to think about.

I thought I would post the fix, for anyone searching in the future.

The main wire from the alternator to the junction box (relay) was shorting and blew the fusable link. The fix was to rewire directly from the alternator to the battery with the last 6 inches being fusable link wire.
