Did XJ's ever come with a 6 quart oil pan?

I changed the oil pan when I changed the rear main seal. The pan came from a salvage yard, I don't know what year it came from. Mine is a 91.

Well to make a long story short. The two oil changes since have needed 6 quarts of oil to fill up.

Am I just losing my mind or what?

As far as I know, the 4.0L engine has always required 6 quarts of oil.

Exactly. Unless you use an FL-1 filter, so you can use 6.5 quarts at a change.

My 87xj 4.0l takes 5 and a half qts at oil change and my 01xj 4.ol takes 6.

Well, that's what I couldn't remember is how much I put in before the pan change.

It was 5 but that was most likely the dent in the pan that made up the difference.
