So Cal NAXAJ Run Needed NOW!!!

KINGSIZE

NAXJA Forum User
So I was thingking today that we need a SoCal NAXJA run SOON....Its been a few weeks since we have bacome a real chapter....So if the prez (Sequoia) can make it the VP (Mjr) needs to step up and plan a run...We need to keep the hype going fellas....It seems to me that the same 2 people post on this fourm...So if we did a run this would help people to get to know each other thus making this So Cal Chapter move in the right direction....

I think the pres is on a secret mission: he's spyin on the east coast chapters during his trip there....

I agree on the run, and I almost got things going for this coming weekend but things came up :( :(

Anways I did talk with Sequoia before he left and there is a big chance that there will be something going on the weeknd that the Harry POtter book is coming out (long story why.... I'll let SEquoia explain it LOL).... anywyas our general plan is potentially to do the same thing as last time: two part run.... Sat easier stuff, SUnday harder stuff and people can come for either first, second or both days :)

P.S. You're wrong... it's 3 people that keep constantly posting here :) :)

I agree. I put an invite out for last weekend, with almost no notice. There was interest expressed both here on the board and with PM's. I fully understand that not everybody is in a position to drop everything and hit the trails at the drop of a hat. But I agree Robert. We NEED an official NAXJA SOCAL run! I'd even settle for officialish. We need a date tossed out on the floor.
Besides that, the company I work for just got me one of those cell phones that has a GPS built in to it. I'd like the opportunity to se how lost I can get and still know where I am.
All day run, Day and a half, Two day?

I don't know if you just giving Sequoia and Mike some crap or not but here's a little info on an update.

The forum is up and National has said it's basically a go to put the application in but we don't have all the final paperwork done. So there can't be an "Official SoCal" run yet.

However, if we want to do an "Unofficial SoCal" run we can, someone just needs to step up and start one.

I know both of them, Sequoia & MJR very well. Both good guys and they know me well.

This thread was ment as a fire starter....I just dont want to see this thing slow down due to paperwork...If you look at the last few posts they have all the same (3) people replying. Something need to happen fast or this thing will die out. Plus by the time you get a run together no ones gonna show up cuz i t will be wayyy to hot to run...

I just realized something... RObert, are you asking for a Jamboree type of an event or a regulare trail ride? I don't think anything more then the official once a year type of an event is considered and official chapter event... and that.... well... we gotta plan for so that we get sponsors for drawing and such..... that's where the other thread that I started is kind of heading...

Alright, I'm back from my recon mission -er vacation. Now as Kingsize there said, a run is in order. Now I can't do one immediatly, as I've got work getting in the way and some pre-existing plans over memorial day weekend (major drag), but here's what I'll offer...

First of all here's the real stuff I have to offer.

The weekend of June 21 - 22 a run, most likely somewhere up in Big Bear, that's the one that Kejtar was talking about, Saturday's run will be an easy one (most likely 2N02, going to Big Bear from the Yucca Valley area), this will be able to be taken in even a stock 2WD XJ.

Sunday will be the more difficult day, it won't be extreme, but it will be fun.

The location is still to be discussed (somewhere in Big Bear I'm sure).

It's possible that I'll be able to do something on either May 31 or June 1, I'll let you know as we get closer to that, but lets hear some suggestions!

Sequoia

Keep in tune, same bat-time, same bat-channel.

EDIT: Oh, one more thing. This isn't going to be a huge "Official" type run, it's still a bit early and we do need to plan that one very carefully, lots of work goes into those! This is just to get as many people together to have fun, and provide an alternative to Goatman's Rubicon run which is scheduled on the same weekend.

Who said anything about a Jamboree? All i want is a run. John Bull, Cleghorn.....I dont care.....Id just like to see things moving along a little faster then it is...By the time this gets going it will be either to hot or to late......Again these are my thoughts and if you dont like them i really dont care.

reminder: there will be a run on june 14 in the shaver lake area. were planning to run red and coyote lake trails...i'v been in contact with the rangers and the trails should be open. if so, this would be a great dual socal and sierra run. there's also a rubincon run june 20-22.
how about planning something for july?? i'v not run anything in the san gabriel mtns.....any great trails there? that would represent a central location for a socal run.

I would say john bull. I will have my axel swaps done in about 2 weeks so Anytime after that is good for me. We can't run cleghorn because it is still closed. I Have been checking it about every other day. We may beable to get to it from the HWY138 side but the trail head at cajon pass is closed. I will keep you posted if it opens. Have any of you run cleghorn after the big fire up there. They eliminated some of the trails with a excavator in order to make a fire brake. Some of the best parts are still there but one large section is gone and they wouldn't even let me drive where the excavator moved the dirt.

Ive be told that the gate is open at Cleghorn but no one seems to know if you can run it. I have to drive past their on friday on my way to temecula so ill stop and check it out.

Robert

I believe Cleghorn is still closed for fire damage recovery (I will confirm this).

John Bull is about as easy as it has ever been, due to an agressive (and unauthorized) effort to relocate all the large rocks to one side of the trail at the bottom of the hill beginning the most difficult section (running east to west). This has happened (in less dramitic fashion) each of the past few years before the Jeep Jamboree, and with the typical rock stacking during the Jamboree this trail gets the pavement treatment. An XJ on 30's with rocker protection and a rear LS would probably run the current trail clean if paired up with a vehicle with one locker to help on the pulling end of a strap (until the AAT Club schedules the repairs/difficulty improvements).

As far as I know there are no closures of major trails in the Mountian Top Ranger District (BB & Arrowhead) other than the T6 crossing of Deep Creek and Cleghorn.

What about Pontiac Sluice?, or Deep Creek?...

I do know that Deep Creek, is full of water from the snow run-off, but should nt be too bad..

If John bull has been "pavement friendlied" then its gonna boring, the whole fun part of that trail is that rock garden at the start..going up the hill..if thats gone...I might as well take the wifes minivan..:anon:
