Damaged Transfer Case

I'm going to look at a used 94, the add states that it has a damaged transfer case.

Is it safe to asume that I would be able to test drive this heep in 2x? As long as I do not shift into 4x4?

Any thoughts??

The guy is asking around $2000 for it. So it makes it real tempting.

Also the add does not state Auto/Manual, I know in my 91 I have the NP242,
Could I drop my TC into the 94 if it is Auto? If it is Manual would it have the NP231?

Manuals only came with NP231's, autos came both ways, the full time was an option that cost IIRC ~$300 more...

It's hard to say with such little info, but $2K for a 94 with a bad TC is a bit much, IMO.

the transfer case turns the rear wheels as well. perhaps you may be able to test drive if its just the shift fork.

id say get it if everything looks good but it just doesnt engage 4wd for some reason. you can get a used case to replace it for about $150-175, easy.
