Bad Front Drive Shaft....looking for some info

highspeed

NAXJA Forum User
Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask a quick question regarding my front drive shaft. I have play at the slip joint and I believe it is making some noise while in 4wd and even at low speeds.

I have an 01 XJ with 6.5" lift and LP D30, auto trans, and NP242. I would like to raid the JY for a temp replacement while I send my current one off for a rebuild. What years or models (lots of ZJs and WJs at the JY) can i pull from to use as a temp replacement until I rebuild my current one?

I remember seeing a list of different length front DS from different model Jeeps, but can't seem to find it on the interwebs anymore. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

ZJ shaft should be fine. Probably best to measure what your "center" of yoke to yoke is and get something close. ZJ front shafts are longer than most XJ shafts.

First thing is crawl under the jeep with a tap measure and get the distance between the center of the two yokes (u-joint cap to u-joint cap).

There are a couple of considerations with that table. You can only use the shafts that have u-joint ends, and ignore the shafts that have CV ends. Also it doesn't list WJs.

When you get the measurement, post it here
