Shifter removal

I hope someone can help.
I will be removing the trans to replace the slave cyl. in my 1989
Jeep Comachee PU with the Peugot trans.
I have no idea how to remove the shifter.

It's a top-loader. Remove the shifter boots to access the base of the shifter, and I think you should see a retaining ring holding it down/in. There's a spring beneath that. Press down on the ring and rotate it (don't recall which direction). It has bayonet type lugs, so about 1/8 of a turn should release it.
