Replacing front brake question

Trying to figure which are right and left. Should the side with the slot that has two tabs on both sides go towards the top or bottom. The other end has a tab on only one side that it allows to slide off. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

2 tabs up, 1 down, according to my 98 service manual. 97-2001 should be the same. Not sure about the earlier years.

I don't want to come off as harsh here, but Reverend Jim is wrong.

Both the 95 and 99 FSM clearly show two tabs down, one up. They direct you to open the caliper by tilting it outward from the top, clearly possible only if the claw is on the bottom. I have a 95 and a 99, both with well over 250 thousand miles of good braking behind them. The claw goes down.
