Cargo Carrier as a roof rack?

I bought one of these but I also pull a small trailer. I can't do both at the same time so I thought why not mount the cargo carrier up top as a mini roof rack? They only weigh 50 pounds and if you add a 3rd factory luggage support for the center I think you could haul quite a bit of gear up there. They are actually narrow enough to mount 2 side by side but I don't know that I need THAT much storage. You could add lights to it, shovel, hi-lift etc. They can handle 500 pounds but I know you don't want near that much weight on the roof.

Thoughts?

works pretty well actually. The ones from harbor frieght do especially well.

you can also use loading ramps.

I do! Welded a 2" receiver under the back of my 1/4 T Pack Mule trailer, modified the carrier to raise it up 2' higher for clearance off road.
