hopefully this is a better place to get any kind of answer

i have a 93 2 door 4.0 aw4....

my headliner was shot so i got another one from a 99 2 door 2.5 ax5....

the 99 headliner has the integrated soundbar in the rear with the cargo light and a map light up front...

here's my question... how do i wire it so the lights only come on from the switches...

i found this link http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.ph...speaker+wiring (http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1040221&highlight=speaker+wiring)

i found what wires do what... the only thing is on my wiring harness i have three wires...
pink - constant hot
yellow - switched hot from doors
purple - ???

the 99 headliner wiring harness is the same for the rear but only has yellow and pink up front...

sorry if this is rudementary but i'm pretty retarded when it comes to wiring...

if this isn't oem tech could the mods please move it where it should be... thanks...

I have precisely your year, 2dr and setup except for the '99 liner and speaker bar.

Someone will no doubt get on to help but I wanted to ask what exactly you mean by the lights only coming on from the switches? Do you mean not coming on with open doors?

Better than where?

Oh and x2 on Pelican's question. What do you mean by only the switches?

The wire from the doors should be a switched ground. The way that the doors make the dome lights go on is by completing the ground at the door switch. The purple may be a ground going back to the light switch. Rotate knob all the way to make the dome light go on (check for completion of ground with a meter).

Hope this helps- ehall covers the same details in a thread of his (not sure if it's in a build thread, or what, but he was installing additional lights in his hatch), but this covers the basics and some of the differences. I was scratching my head while putting my newer lights in, had to sort it out with a meter (I got it working, but I had the functions/polarity confused- ignore that bit).

Found the other thread

thanks for the links... i'll check them out...

yeah i don't want the lights to come on when i open the doors... i just want them to be wired to their switches only... i kno i'm weird but i leave the doors open too much...
