There are letters handwritten in paint marker on the passenger side of my block by each cylinder it says c d c c c c, just wonder what they can mean

According to a guy I met who worked in the 4.0 factory, the pistons, within a certain bore size, had size groups that were matched to each cylinder's bore.

pretty sure cruiser54 is correct, I think I saw something about it in my FSM at one point.
I'd check mine but they're buried under 1/4" of oil and dirt buildup...

From what I understand, it was an attempt to reduce the piston slap noise. Didn't work well though..........
