i got a 02 xj and we think it lost the timing belt does anyone know how to change it and if theres one or two belts and its a v8

well then it s a grand cherokee it just says cherokee on the side but its a 02

Not to rain on your parade, but you will probably get help sooner on the GC website http://www.nagca.com/ especially with the V8.

Could we be looking at a non -US Liberty? I think they're labeled Cherokees. If it's really a V6, not a straight 6, and especially if it's rather short and compact, that's what I'd bet on, and look for a Liberty forum.
