It is the same party....regardless of which way they used to lean. At the time they were still the Democratic Party. Ideologies flow with the times. The Dems soon realized their mistakes and flip-flopped to gain support from minorities, realizing that soon, minorities would be the majority.
Yes, both parties equally suck, just that the one "in control" tends to stand out more.
