I just picked up a stock "97 four door XJ(plans in the works).How can i find the gear ratio of the diff.'s?Thanks

You can count teeth on the ring&pinion (toughest, have to pop the cover off the diff), can look for a tag hanging off the housing that should be stamped with your ratio (355 is original ratio for automatics without towing package), or you can throw the transfer case in neutral, lift up one wheel, and turn it while counting driveshaft rotations.

For 97 you either have
-4.0/ auto- 3.55's
-4.0/5 speed- 3.07's
-2.4/5 speed- 4.10's
Look for a tag.

It's a 4.0 with atuto.3:55's it must be!I plan on getting 31x10:50's,are these gears good to go for that size tire?
