Spring clamp problem

Did an S-10 bastard pack on my 88 over the past couple weekends and along the way I made my own spring clamps. They seemed to work ok at first, but during their first offroad they moved all over the place. By that I mean up and down the length of the spring.

The 2 thoughts I have for fixing this are:
1. epoxy the top top piece to the main XJ leaf
2. drill a 1/4" (?) hole through the top piece through the main XJ leaf and then weld a piece of 1/4" rod through the clamp so that it goes into the top XJ leaf.
Any thoughts on these two ideas? Any other ideas to keep these from moving around?

You need to do it right, epoxy isnt going to work and you cant weld on the leaves.Do a search, there are several threads that have links to the proper bolt-on/rivet-on clamps.
