if you're going to weld on anything that EVER held fuel, fill it as full as you can with water so there is as little room as possible for fuel vapor to collect... then weld away.

Or purge with argon of co2 before you start welding.

Yeah, I have a co2 line hooked to it. Starting to sand it down today. This little car can fit on my xj roof rack.
