Sounds like it's working fine. Remember, when you're in 4wd it's trying to turn all 4 wheels at the same speed. If you are on dry pavement and you're trying to turn, even a little, it's going to be fighting itself trying to spin all 4 wheels at the same speed. SO, the outside wheel is trying to keep up with the inside wheel. Causes a lot of binding and will eventually break something. You should NEVER be in 4wd on dry pavement. Ever. I'm thinking there's nothing wrong with your jeep. Everything you described is normal.

Skip the Chilton and find a used FSM.

Were u moving when u dropped it in 4 high fulltime chase mine won't kick in unless I'm going 10 mph or more then again mine is a 1988 not a 2004 and mines a xj not a wj

If its camand you only have two options 4 hi 4low with the select track it 4hi 4low and 4hi full time
