H4 Headlight Upgrade

My passenger side headlight has been near death for a few weeks now. As opposed to simply replacing it I went looking for an upgrade.

I found this thread,
http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/my-h4-upgrade-114440/
and a bunch of others that use easy to install off the shelf items to upgrade/eliminate the terrible sealed beam headlights.

I'm not going to go through the entire install, that already been well documented. Instead I'll just post a couple pics of the results.

Keep in mind my passenger side light was near death, which makes the difference more dramatic.

Low beams before....

Low beams after....

It took about 45 minutes to install and the results speak for themselves.

Edit: I parked in the exact same spot along the fence line on my property for the before and after shots. I figured the fence posts would make a good yardstick for measuring purposes.

Which housings/bulbs did you go with?
I have the IPF H4 housings, with hella 100w bulbs and the lmctruck h4 harness.

wow that is a drastic improvement

OP has the right idea. The factory wiring is awful and has a huge voltage drop. I run a similar package and never turn on the highbeams because the lowbeams are so good.

I ordered the exact parts listed in the CherokeeForun thread. Putco harness, hella 100/80 bulbs and Autopal H4 housings.
Nice, I got the IPF's before I knew about Autopal's but to be honest cannot complain one bit. I got my hella bulbs on amazon for 6-7$ a piece (plus free prime shipping).

i also did this upgrade with some lenses i found on amazon. they came with a cheap/crappy HID setup. but i installed h4 bulbs from sylvania in thema and they are perfect.

i have these bulbs.

and them mounted.

According to what I read, the harness upgrade will even improve the performance of the stock bulbs. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the H4 lenses.

I went with the Autopals over the Hellas mostly because of the price, the Hellas are $100. But I had the advantageous position of being able to ask people who've done the swap if the Autopals were worth a shit.

I put in a Hella 90 watt bulb in one side and a 90 watt bulb w/ harness in the other, then compared with stock bulbs same setup (one harness, one not)
The harness makes more difference than the high wattage bulbs.
