Will a 231 out of an xj bolt in to a quadra-drive zj?

If it's a 96+ 231 it looks like it will. Good luck finding a 231 ZJ shifter and bezel though.. not very common.

93-95 V8 ZJ's: 46RH transmission, 1.55" 23 spline input shaft
93-95 I6 ZJ's with the 42RE: .840" 23 spline input (with collar)
93 I6 ZJ's with the AW4 or AX15: .750" 23 spline input
All 96-98 ZJ's: .840" 23 spline input
All 96-01 XJ's: .840" 23 spline input
92-95 XJ's: .750" 23 spline input
91 and older XJ's: .750" 21 spline input

I believe any 231 t-case after 96 should bolt up. There was a gear cut change in 95 so that would be about the only thing to watch for. As for the bezel, 1993 was the only year that the 231 came in the zj. Might look for one of those for the bezel.

Your jeep will have a .840 Input..

You CAN use a .750 Input.. I am with Zero Problems..

Gear cut only comes into play when swapping an input.. if he has a whole transfer case it's irrelevant.

231's were installed through 95 then discontinued I believe.

NOT true I just scapped a 1995 zj with 231 in it, if the trim for the shifter is the same as a 95 I have the trim you would need ie: 2wd, 4wd high and 4wd low pm me if interested in it

Well its for a friend but ill let you know of he ever gets around to doin a swap.
