Ok
So, let's say that I am going to go the route of replacing the cursed ABS system...
I can get away with the master brake cylinder, vacuum booster and the necessary vacuum lines down to the combination valve, right?
Then I can remove the fuse to the ABS system and I should be good to go...
If you can find an after market supplier for these cables, send a message to the list...I had to get mine from the dealer and they only came in the complete spring kit for $65! What an expensive pain!

I send this out to all who read this who also have the ABS system that has the pump that groans every other time you hit the brake.
I am looking for your experiences in the ABS when compared to other vehicle's brake systems
My 89 Wagoneer's ABS has always been spongy with major pedal travel. 90%...
I wouldn't.
Applying heat to tempered glass, will surely shatter it! Even a small amount of heat!
Unfortunatly, there aren't many other options...perhaps an electrically conductive adhesive?

OK...This is now fixed...and the above is the winning answer.
Looking under the dash, there are several switches interacting with the brake pedal. One is a multi-connection black box and then further up on the pedal, attached to a metal bar is a white box with a long plunger on it and a vacuum...
I have the same problem on my 90 XJ...but I have a K&N filter and a pool of oil on the ground whenever I parked.
I replaced that small hose from the vacuum to the valve cover with a thick wall rubber vacuum tube. Now it works perfectly and I no longer have any problems...
The small plastic tube...
I recently had my 89 Wagoneer LTD in on that recall.
They said that it already had been in once before (I doubt it though) but they did the job anyway. Unfortunatly, they said that there was something else wrong along with the recalled part that along with a brake bleed would cost me $300...
Hmmm, it looks like you're missing a few years there and adding some.
I know that my 89 and 90 XJs all have the one piece cast rotor/hub. But my Wife's 96 has the stamped steel hub welded to a cast rotor disk. It's the stamped steel hub you need to worry about...If yours looks rusty, then it's...
Not to diminish the other suggestions on this thread (That tranny fluid replacement seems like it can be a whole thread in and of its self!)
but this is the kind of definite troubleshooting I'm looking for!
Thanks
I wish it were the weekend now so I can go ahead and try this!
Thanks
Ed
My 89 with over 250k miles had the same issue...bad compression and sever blow-by to the point where oil was dripping from my K&N filter! I had to top off the oil once a week and put a catch pan under my filter to catch the dripping oil!
I had a local repair shop put in a Jasper. engine, and...
Not entirely sure...but I know it was a bunch...The recall notice was dated 2000, my wife's jeep is a 96, so I would suppose that if you have a jeep that has the stamped steel hub welded to your rotor (it's obvious if you have this...compare to the rear rotor for comparison) and your jeep is...
Excellent suggestions...TCC solonoid...I think there is a relay for that, right? I checked the TCM fuse and that is fine.
TV cable...hmmm, I did just replace the throttle cable, perhaps there is excessive play in the TV cable now that the throttle cable is tighter than it was.
TPS...I've always...
OK...I have a problem with my '89 Wagoneer LTD (basically an XJ).
The TQ lockup basically, well...doesn't!
I count the shifts and they stop at 4. RPMs at 55mph are almost 2.5k when it normally is under 2k.
So, my question is, where do I look for the solution? TPS? That transmission selector...
Take your jeep to the dealership immediatly! You risk death or injury if you do not!
This is a known issue and there is a recall on this.
Seriously...this happened on my wife's jeep and when I discovered what was making the noise, it scared me out of my wits!
Basically what happens is that...
I don't know if this will help, but check the part numbers for the combination valve between what you had and what you swapped. Also, most combination valves have a reset button on them. Check to see if you have that.
