I'm having trouble getting my stock replacement motor mounts in.* The first set I bought from Summit Racing.* I didn't try to install them when I noticed the metal sleeve in the rubber is shorter than the mounts I pulled out.* So I ran to O'reilly and bought theirs, which were basically...
What are the recommended brands for water pumps on the 4.0 these days? I have local access to Summit on top of Napa and O'Reilly. Put slight upgrade radiator in in November. Don't mind minor upgrades, but don't need anything crazy; motor is stock. Searches only turned up years old posts, and we...
after letting it run for a minute, it starts normally now. Is there a better brand of CPS? I've read that OEM is no longer available. Locally, I can get Napa, BWD, MasterPro. Summit can get me Standard Motor Products, or Crown Automotive.
UPDATE:
I read somewhere that it might be flooded, so I cranked and cranked at WOT and it eventually started. Made sense since I was cranking all morning checking fuel pressure and for spark.
My concern now is that I didn't see spark initially, unplugged the CPS for 5+ minutes, re-plugged it...
ok. I googled "spark and fuel, no start" and read something on Cherokee forum about it being flooded and try starting at WOT. So, I cranked and cranked at WOT and it eventually started. Being flooded made sense since I'd been cranking all morning checking fuel pressure and spark.
I started a new thread, but in case anyone comes back in here, here's the latest update:
I'm baffled. Fuel pressure holds at about 32psi, but will slowly bleed down to about 28 after 5 mins. I checked spark to all 6 cylinders and it's there. I originally checked 1 cylinder and wasn't getting...

I'm baffled. Fuel pressure holds at about 32psi, but will slowly bleed down to about 28 after 5 mins. I checked spark to all 6 cylinders and it's there. I originally checked 1 cylinder and wasn't getting spark, then read something about unplugging the CPS for...
I didn't check for the actual CPS sensor, but the pigtail was plugged in near the fuel rail. I wouldn't think that they'd cut the wires.
There is no spark. Just watched a youtube vid about unplugging it for 5 minutes and trying again. That was for an '89, but worth a shot while I dick around...
New clue: I went out to pull the battery to charge it for the weekend. But after reading about the NSS, I decided to check both shifter and steering wheel locks and try to start it in neutral. Both locks work. Didn't crank or prime the pump in neutral. After, it wouldn't prime the pump or crank...
Haven't put a tester on it yet, but I turned the key off and on a couple times to make sure it was charge. The Schrader valve barely squirt any fuel out, certainly not something that was violent or seemed pressurized.
Bummer, I just put a new pump in it a couple months before it was stolen
Thanks Green Mesa,
I'll try all that. The tow yard guy said he's got an XJ and said they're pretty easy to steal. I should've gotten the details. Checking the CPS is a great idea.
Can I check the pressure at the Schrader valve if it's just cranking?
