Because you were measuring voltage negative-to-negative, You basically performed a voltage-drop test. The meter was showing you a 13v drop between the terminal and the clamp. This would be normal, given that they weren't in contact. If they were touching, and clean, the meter reading would be...
My tire guy (at an actual specialized tire shop) warned me that most popular AT tires are designed for trucks and heavy SUV's in the 5000-6000lb range. Because the XJ only clocks in at about 3000lbs, these tires are going to be very prone to cupping. He implored me to rotate them frequently...
At that price, I went ahead and bought one just for permanently mounting in the Jeep. I cracked it open and removed the 12v power from the OBD2 socket, and run it back to the accessories portion of the fuse box. That way it comes on when the vehicle does. Then I run an old nexus-4 as a small...
Some of the low-cost adapters get very spotty reviews in terms of compatibility and general weirdness. I can't speak to all of them.
I now have purchased four different BAFX OBD2 bluetooth adapters from Amazon. They are getting down to around the $20 price range. All 4 have worked properly...
I am a 80/day daily driver in my 96 XJ. I have been slowly building out my on-board kit with tools and spares. So far I have:
1. 1 Gallon antifreeze 50/50
2. 1 Quart Each Oil/TransFluid
3. Belt
4. Cargo Straps / Bungees
5. Compressor, Tire Slime
6. Jumper cables
7. Small Lithium...
Hard to say where the vapors are coming from. Perhaps a problem with the tank, or a connection, or around the fuel pump assembly itself on the top of the tank. Even the plastic gas containers in my garage allow vapor out on hot days. And they are sealed tight with only 2 possible routes of...
With an upcountry-ish lift of 1-1.5" you will not need to change anything. I have this setup (with 30/9.50/r15 tires) and the front end geometry is still within factory spec when reviewing the data from a computer alignment.
One thing it can bring to the surface is that old u-joints that have...
Number21,
Interesting problem. Are you by chance dragging a brake pad on the passenger side (really common for that pad to stick on XJs). It can get upwards of 800f when it does, and much of that heat radiates right in the are of the PDC. The last time it happened on mine, I felt lucky that...
erykv1,
I can't see from the dash pics, but do you have a tachometer? (or an obd2 scanner that will give you RPM) Could you tell us what RPM you have at 60mph? What is your typical cruising speed? Can you give the RPM for that as well?
(If for any reason your RPMs are high for that speed...
Glad you found it.
Even if the u-joints were brand new, they probably would have taken some time to adjust to the new angles. When I did my leaf springs recently, I had just rebuilt the drive shafts a few weeks ealier, and for the first few days on the springs, there was definitely some rumble...
I have also found that if I turn the bluetooth on my regular phone, before the digital dash (just another phone), that I have a hard time connecting the scanner to the digital dash phone. It is like my normal phone is trying to get it first, then when I turn off the bluetooth on my regular...
Unless your 96 is an early build and for some reason has OBD1, I can confirm that that exact bluetooth scanner and Torque should work fine.
96 XJ Sport.
I don't know my build date, but it is early enough that my 96 has the 95 fuse panel. My 96 is OBD2.
I use the same one, and I run a digital...
