I have also an not OEM style crossmember. The modification was not much.. some inches relocation of the trans mount.
I see no reason why you can not weld a mounting bracket/point to your crossmember for the trans mount (auto or man), this is sure not a job stopper :-)

the input shaft with low range planetary (6 pl vs 3 pl) was swapped from 246 TC which came originaly with the motor LM7+4l60e
You have to plug the BTS back. I had this issue with my 2001 also. The ECM needs the temperature signal to calculate the charging depending on 'battery' temperature..
second cam swap, this time a little bit smaller cam for a better down torque, Elgin 1256 (206/212, .515, .521)

From begin of the swap I always wanted the stock instrument cluster to work, so I finally bought the Novak tach emulator and instaled it today. I am very happy that all the gauges in the stock cluster are working with LM7 engine now.

I like the stock XJ cluster design.. all gauges can work with the LS, although for the tach you need the pricey novak emulator
on another hand with the custom gauges you can have your own design and it is easier to make them work. but quality gauges cost some money...

I am satisfied with the flowmaster delta series but if you say the sound of the Spintech is awesome I have to checked their products because you never know what is better
driveshafts ready and installed
I have to say driving stickshift XJ is really fun, driving stickshift V8 XJ is much more fun. The NV3500 is not a fast transmission but lot more fun than boring AW4 or 4l60e.
HPtuners shows the LM7 (after some tuning) is producing about 220 ft lbs torque at...
