    Rear defrost weak

Great...thanks Digger. I just tested the voltage and it's only reading about 10.5. The voltage actually gets lower (to about 9.0) as I tested from the top of the glass to the bottom (driver's side). Again, prob normal. Perhaps my 'repairs' weren't good enough and there's too much resistance...

    Rear defrost weak

Which part is normal? Even with a full 12v only the driver's side will show voltage? I haven't measured yet but it seems low just because the test light is very dim. I had the wiring apart there once before and there were five broken wires causing all sorts of issues. I repaired them with...

    Rear defrost weak

98, Lmtd, 160K... Title says it all...rear window defrost is very weak. I'm getting voltage on the left (driver's) side only of the grid. Each line will illuminate the test light (weakly) but by halfway across (towards pass), there is nothing. It doesn't seem like there is a break in the...

    Runs too cool?

Interesting to note that I checked the original 195 T-stat and it worked just fine. Apparently the addition of the two holes in the T-stat body was enough to make it run cold though. It's pretty cold outside now (5 deg F yesterday AM) and the new allum rad is prob very efficient...

    Runs too cool?

**Resolved** Well the solution appears to be the fact that I am a moron (partially). LOL. The new T-stat that I put in was a 165...the parts store gave me the wrong one. I almost always check my thermostats in a pot of hot water before installing and just didn't do it this time because I'm...

    Runs too cool?

I did block off a large portion of the rad (as a test) last night. Temps were low 30's this AM. Only gained about 5 deg. I'm heading to the Jeep dealer today to pick up a 'proper' thermostat. Will update again soon (hopefully).

    Runs too cool?

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I reverse-flushed the t-stat earlier this afternoon. Nothing significant came out. I have also verified the temp with my hand-held IR temp gun and it's nearly identical to the OBD reading. I aimed it at the the t-stat housing. While running down the road I'm...

    Runs too cool?

Going to try the HC flush today. Got a bunch of junk out of my Toyota that way but it had other issues. Did the trick though... Does the OEM t-stat have one of those 'jigglers' to help with the purge? My replacement from CarQuest did not. I have always drilled my t-stats if they don't have the...

    Runs too cool?

1998, 4.0, auto. Just replaced the t-stat with a 195 as the heat barely worked. PO replaced rad, waterpump, etc. I noticed the old t-stat was also 195 but had two extra holes drilled in the body. I drilled one hole in the new one then put it all back together. According to the scan gauge...

    Brake pedal height

Our 'new to us' 98 (4.0 Auto) has what I would characterize as an extremely high brake pedal. High in relation to the gas pedal. While braking, it's easy to hit your right foot on the side of the pedal when transitioning from gas to brake. In fact, if you just slide across, your foot will go...

    Multiple wiring issues, or same?

Update: After a lot of fooling around with the rear hatch I discovered several weird things so I decided to open up the loom where it passes through the door frame and into the door (pivot point). Found six wires chaffed and/or completely broken including what looks like a big thick ground wire...

    Multiple wiring issues, or same?

Thanks Tim...the rear tailgate seems to be the most likely culprit at this point as it's somewhat 'loose' and I can push it forwards and back while it's 'closed' and make the interior lights flash. Question, where is the best place to unplug the door harnesses from? Does the door card need to...

    Multiple wiring issues, or same?

New to this Jeep (98 XJ, Limited, 4.0, 160K, Auto). I hate for my first post to be of the 'help' variety but here we are... Picked up the XJ last night with known electrical issues.Specifically, a battery drain. Pulling the 15A fuse at the top right corner (labeled IOD?) from the underhood...
