it could be time to replace that old radiator there could be some crap down in the middle of it slowing the flow. also rember to change out the thermostat as well its like a 6 dollar part so might as well.
i would just go with the 18 either way cause all u have to do is cut and patch and knowone will ever knwo and if they do then its a plus that it has been replaced.
yes i definatly agree the crap around the valve cover and now the water that is in there is a no no just change it and save the headache for something else.
unfortunatly this can be a conmmon problem in some of the earlier model xjs a couple of inexpensive things to think about would be to (if you havent allready) to check and replace the thermostat, flush radiator and flush coolant. those are gonna be some of the problem and are allways a good...
yup your good just dont forget. like was said before put something over the shifter lever if your feeling to lazy to get underneath and pull the front axel.
the only time i have been in the back seat was when i was sleeping off a hangover cause i forgot my house key so i slept out front, and when i had my g/f with me and we went "wheelin" (which we did as well by the way)
yea new alternator for sure... and i sure hope it didnt burn through any wires when all the smoke happened could have a positive wire goin to ground now that could be a major problem.

ok I have a 85 xj w/ a 3.4 V6 out of a camaro 8 in lift and 34 10.50 ss tsl's... now the rest... BUT it has the factory trani 5spd (i think maybe out of a AMC 2.8...
If you get another fuel pump DO NOT getone from auto zone get one from o'rileys or someother place because the auto zone pumps have a large tendency to just quit working we replaced one were i work 2 times it would run for about a week or 2 the just quit. then we call o'rileys and got another...
if it is the same thing as what is in the picture it is the brake lines. other than that i havent seen anything like your talking about on any of my 3 XJ's
also vehicles with front end damage are more prone to overheating... even after the radiator may have been replaced as well as "disapearing coolant" if the vehicle was ran for any sort of time after the incident then it could have overheated causing the head gasket to no longer seal allowing...
Here in Texas it is a $25,000 fine to the muffler shop if a muffler shop removes it if you do it yourself it is illegal as well and you get some sort of ticket unless it is 24+years old (clasic car) meaning 81 and older vehicles.:lecture:
