We just purchased an 86 Cherokee XJ Pioneer with Selec-Trac (NP229) I've learned a lot in a few days - ours needs some work because the 4wd won't disengage - other than this - it's in great shape, 135K miles. Info is hard to find on these. Good luck with your adventure!
From what I've been...
Thank you! We've checked the vacuum lines and they are ok. I found a mode rod adjustment and we are going to check that out - also thinking it's possibly the selector switch. Is the NP229 the same in both FSJ and the Cherokee XJ? I've found lots of info for the FSJ NP229.
We just purchased an 86 Pioneer w/ NP 229 and are having trouble with 4wd staying disengaged. I've read other posts - but not sure it's all the same(NP 229s) - new to Jeeps and this board, etc. Help - what should we do to find the problem?
ALSO - can disconnecting the shift rod from the vacuum...
ok - and one more question - maybe this is the problem, LOL! We just purchased an 86 Pioneer Selec-Trac, 2.8 V6 - (No manual) - what's the proper procedure to shift into 4wd from 2wd??
New to Jeeps, new to this forum...we are purchasing a 1986 Cherokee Pioneer Selec-Trac. I've searched, read all the posts applicable and still have questions. It won't seem to disengage the 4wd, light stays on - but after reading realize that's not a biggie - Light or not it's still in 4wd...
