Hey All!
So, after driving about 2,900 miles on the Jeep, I decided to pull the cover on the rear end. All the bolts on the ring gear were about finger tight. Seems that the ring gear threads were not good enough. Also, I tried to torque a new bolt into the ring gear and it started stripping...
With respect sir, could you define "perfectly fine". Can you lock the front tires on dry payment in a panic stop? Also, could you describe your best bleeding method/procedure? Did you bleed at the proportioning valve?
Thanks a lot!
So for an update: I completed the front brake replacement. New bearings, seals (Spin-Free kit) machined rotors and pads. So now in total, all brake pads, all rotors and the master cylinder (Durango 1999) is brand new. The master cylinder was bench bled, installed and the system was bled as well...
Ok, so I just replaced the pad and rotors on the rear of my 1999 XJ. When I have the rear of the Jeep in the air and the Jeep running in drive 1st gear it can barely hold the rear wheels stopped. If I throttle up slightly the wheels will spin no matter how much force I apply to the brake pedal...
Drove the Jeep around the block and on the freeway. It seems fine now with the new ring gear bolts. So ghetto. I really can't believe that I was driving this heavy little Jeep with so little holding the ring gear in there! My last weighing of the Jeep was 4825 lbs with 1/8 tank of fuel.
I'm...
Ok, so 4 wheel parts finally responded, and told me to just call the store for service. I found that new ring gear bolts solved my issue. Apparently the thread in the ring gear are still usable. I used the 27200 Permatex red thread locker and torqued to 50 ft-lbs (I didnt want to strip out the...
That is VERY interesting, I had no idea.
I just measured the holes on the locker, and they are approximately 0.39". So I don't think I would've need those.
Thank you.
Interesting. The bolts that I recovered in the differential had 9/16" heads on them, but do have the serrations under the heads. 4 wheel parts didn't bother to use ANY loctite.
Sorry to hear about your issues with the ring bolts.
That is a very good question! They don't look bigger but I haven't used a micrometer on them yet. The fact that the entire length of all recovered bolts and bolt holes look stripped out would suggest that they over tightened the bolts.
I have a 1999 Cherokee Sport 4x4 NP231 8.25/D30HP 35x12.5R15s 4.0.
In the summer of 2018 I had 4 wheels parts install an Ox Locker. I had a re-gear done the previous summer to 5.13. I had been hearing some odd noises from the rear of the Jeep that suddenly became more intense. I removed the...
Just wondering if it's possible or if anybody has cut and turned the inner C's on the Dana 30 while was in the car.
Also, 8 degrees is the correct caster angle?
So this area cracked again. This time around the welds. Not bad for lasting 3 years and 42,000 miles. Now my Jeep has 220,020 miles. I was wondering if possibly the cracking is from heavy weight on the rear seat, but probably just from the body flex. I've since added some frame stiffeners. Any...
