XJ on 46's (CLT NC) need axle help

This is why we need pics :roflmao:

XJ on 46's (CLT NC) need axle help

Yeah, definitely need pics. You need to use a host site for photos, NAXJA doesn't have a server for them. I just started using imgur.com and so far so good, just do not use photobucket.

how much lift is TOO much?

A low COG is definitely your friend! There was an XJ floating around on here years ago that had 2" with 37s! You don't need much up travel, so set the suspension up for down travel with proper bumpstops and shock length. Measure for these based on your setup and not what the manufacturers list...

    SEC CraigsList Thread

Huh, odd chop! Looks like something in desperate need of a cage! I hope the roof was damaged and the didn't really do that to what looks like a rather clean, lower mileage XJ!

    First XJ build

I agree with the drop brackets... Nobody that went long arms wished they went with DBs, but I've seen many with DBs end up going to long arms, myself included. Radius arms don't have major problems, but they do unload more than a 3 or 4 link. You can see this simply by power braking something...

    First XJ build

Yeah, that's the one. And that's understandable, plus the 8.25 should do just fine in the meantime. I've had a couple of them I've beat on over the years and never had issues aside from pinion bearings, which I will blame on the prior owners lack of maintenance.

    First XJ build

I'm not sure if he has a buyer lined up, but a guy in the wearhouse will be selling his. It's welded for an XJ with 4.5" lift and I know it's geared 4.88, but may just have a trac lock in it IIRC. Pretty sure it has 1541 shafts and new brakes though. I can check with him tomorrow and see what...

Yep, I am the primary builder for all of the complete axle assemblies.

    First XJ build

I'm at 4.5" with RE coils, shackle relocation, and bastard packs. I haven't had any issues staying at 4.5", the upper arm is super close when stuffed, but with proper bumpstops it doesn't hit and nicely stuffs the 35s. Ideally I would have gone 4.88s, but I came across a set of 4.56s for the...

Clayton also has a true 3-link although known more for their radius arm setup. I really like this kit, tough as nails and preforms great without the unloading and binding you get with radius arms. If you ever head over to Raleigh you're more than welcome to come check it out.

ARB back lash with used gears

I set these to .007" when new, however I like setting used gears back up to what it measured before removal as long as it's within spec. I also recommend setting the carrier preload on the tight end, ARBs in 8.25s tend to spin the seal housing unless there's significant preload on the carrier.

    Riddler diff cover,

X2! You don't need a large drain plug at all. OX covers use 1/8"NPT for their drain hole.

re3.5 coil spring stock track bar redril

I feel your pain, I was lucky to see more than a dollar, lol! Of course this was 20 years ago and in a small college town so most of my deliveries were to broke students. Don't feel too bad, I drive 40-50 miles a day just commuting to work and going to the gym!

re3.5 coil spring stock track bar redril

I agree you won't hurt anything while saving up those tips for an adjustable trackbar. If you do redrill it, just keep in mind it's a 10mm hole, if you drill it to 7/16 as I 've seen many do, you will run into the sloppy hole issues mentioned. If drilled properly to 10mm this isn't an issue...

    Coils rubbing knuckles?

Are they fully seated in the coil buckets and the end of the spring is in the cutout notch in the bucket? Is your axle properly centered? I assume at 2" you still have a stock trackbar, which shouldn't be much of a problem but could pull the axle over just enough to cause this since it's only...

    Riddler diff cover,

Honestly not sure what they cast them with, and haven't drilled and tapped mine, but I don't see why you couldn't do this successfully. I drill and tap housings for ARBs all the time and there really wouldn't be a difference with this. With that said, I wouldn't personally do this because oil...

Best way to clean/degrease old axle housings

You all do realize this thread is from 2006 right? With that, I use a heated pressure washer if bad enough, but in most cases industrial brake cleaner and wire wheel and flap disc, with safety glasses or face shield of course. Fortunately I build more new assemblies these days than used...

    Anyone running Uwharrie this weekend?

Ahhh yes, I almost forgot that was coming up! I have several things to do on mine before I'd want to take it to the Flats....maybe I can sneak out in the shop rig if nobody has called dibs on it.... I really should be packing then though. :dunno:

    Anyone running Uwharrie this weekend?

I have a busy September as I will be moving, but let us know if and when you plan to go! Glad to hear you got to check it out a bit. Saturday wasn't bad for dust as it had rained Friday night. It can be really slick there in the rain though, so it's nice to go when there's that fine line...
