    Strange speedometer issues.

So now that its cold as hell outside my speedometer is acting up. Its a 92 with electronic speed sensor (new), and until the truck is thoroughly warmed up and driving around for a while the speedo jumps around a bit, about 5 mph, and is very inaccurate. I tightened up all the screws on the back...

    36X12.5X16 GY MTR II Fitment?

You should be able to fit 36" tires on a 4" lift with some healthy trimming but don't expect to get a whole lot of up-travel out of your suspension. I'd guess you'd get maybe 3.5" max out of the front and less out back unless you made custom wheel wells. While you won't be able to stuff as much...

could the rer end really be "bent"?

Take a look at the locating pins on the leaf packs and the locating holes on the spring perches. My passenger side locating hole is a little mangled and the pin is pushed back farther than it should be by 1/4" or so. Its definitely noticeable since it makes the Jeep crab down the road with a...

How to remove axle nut sacrificially

Very good point. His driver side hub was so stuck, after about 30 minutes of agony I ended up splitting it into several pieces with a hand sledge before it finally came apart.

How to remove axle nut sacrificially

We tried to do my cousin's 97 TJ with just a 3/4 breaker bar and couldn't get it even with all of us taking turns jumping on the breaker (all 230+ and one over 300) so we pulled the whole shaft to take it somewhere with bigger tools, then ended up breaking it free with a Harbor Freight electric...

    Best dana30 wheel bearing/hub

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041MB41M/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These may not be the best but are some of the cheapest. The quality is supposed to be on par with Timken and a lot better than the ones you can get at your local auto parts store. At $35 each we got a pair for...

What did you do to your XJ today

I spent the day reinstalling the ZJ seat back that was in it when I bought it. Still using the stock XJ seat bottom but have headrests and 60/40 split. A little bracket modification and a few more holes in the body and it works perfectly now, it even latches.

    need to set castor...

I finally got around to adjusting my caster today and with my long arms I took two full turns out of the uppers and everything feels much more stable, going to try the freeway tomorrow for the first time in months. I also have no idea what my angle is, and I don't think its really relevant...

Should my XJ have a 249 transfer case??

    Any update on the t-case?

    New shocks or coils?

Just installed some cheap Pro-Comp ES9000 on the rear and it firmed it up nicely (was missing one, other was shot) and the front feels super soft and floaty. To firm up the front would I be better off getting heavier coils or upgrading to monotube shocks? Currently have RC 6.5" coils and...

Should my XJ have a 249 transfer case??

I'm starting to think this is the "Jeep Thing" everyone talks about. You try to fix one thing and find two more.

How much does trackbar influence handling?

Disconnect the track bar from the frame mount and see how much play you have in the heim, mine flopped around like a wet noodle. Also the bolts that came with the RC track bar are 10mm, but 7/16 grade 8 fit much better in the bushing sleeve, heim, and the mounting holes. If your holes are...

How much does trackbar influence handling?

What track bar and lower arms do you have? If they're Rough Country I would take a look at the heim on the axle end of the track bar and if your control arms have their x-flex joints I would take those apart and inspect them as well. When I bought my rig it had a RC long arm kit on it and those...

Need Input on My Build Plan

Solid plan and solid advice so far. I'd like to suggest an Eaton True Trac LSD up front instead of a locker if you have a 242 t-case so you can still safely use your full-time on dry pavement and in the snow/ice. There are other LSD options but the True Trac doesn't use clutch plates so no...

Should my XJ have a 249 transfer case??

I would just run what you have since its working and at 3" you shouldn't really need a SYE. If you find that you really need to change your driveshaft angles I would get a t-case drop kit instead, especially if you won't be taking it off road.

Should my XJ have a 249 transfer case??

Well I'm not sure whats going on here either. The serial matches up to it being original to a 98 model year. However the New Venture case replaced the New Process in 96 so I have no clue what the deal is. I'm nowhere close to a t-case expert but from researching the swap process for the ZJ...

    High oil pressure

I'm running Rotella 15w40 and my pressure hangs out at 40-45 regardless of temp or rpm. Not sure if thats good or bad but thats the reading I get on my gauge.

Should my XJ have a 249 transfer case??

Theres always a chance that it is in fact a 249 swapped in from a ZJ if thats what was available when the stock one needed replaced. After fixing tons of crappy craftsmanship thanks to the previous owners of mine, I'm realizing that tons of stuff has been swapped in from the newer body style and...
