Leaking coolant (freeze plug?), okay to drive?

I've been having a small amount of coolant leaking from the rearmost part of my 4.0L. I suspect it may be the freeze plug(s) on the back of the engine since it's dripping onto the same spot as my rear main leak, haha. It's not leaking much, but when the weather warms up it seems to leak even...

Jeep died while driving but now runs fine, fuel issue?

I was driving about 8 miles from home the other day when my '91 XJ (4.0, AW4, 242) randomly died as I went around a right hand turn at about 20 mph. It cranked fine but would not restart. Gas gauge was at 1/8 and the gas light was not on, but I thought maybe the gauge was not reading accurate...

Keep a look out for this stolen Jeep

Saw this in the news this morning... soldier's Jeep with all his stuff in it stolen from a friend's house in Portland while the owner's out of town stationed in Virginia. Dude didn't have full coverage on it either, pretty crappy situation if it isn't found...

Replacement Leaf Spring Bushings, Rubber or Polyurethane?

I hope OEM tech is the appropriate place to post this question... I suspect I need new leaf spring bushings and am wondering what you guys would suggest? My XJ is lifted but I did a bastard pack in the rear so I’m still running the stock main leaf (and therefore will need new bushings intended...

Junkyard electric fan conversion - Contour fan, or?

I'm wanting to convert to an electric cooling fan on my XJ... did some searching and it looks like a lot of people are either running aftermarket fans, which I would prefer not to do; or using something like the Taurus e-fan and having to remove the mechanical fan pulley and mounting hub to make...

    WTB: A nice stock XJ

My little sis is looking for a new vehicle and has turned her attention to XJ's, so I'm helping her look around for good ones in her area. She is in Santa Barbara and would want to stay within areas around a 1-1.5 hour drive away to go look at vehicles; so the L.A. area is OK, but Orange County...

Headlights Cutting Out, Need Help Troubleshooting

'91 XJ, been having issues with my headlights cutting out randomly. After the first time the lights cut out on me (almost a year ago) I replaced the hi-low switch, which was slightly melted, and didn't have any problems until recently. Now, within the last 2 weeks the headlights have cut out...

    4x4 Trails near Crater Lake?

So I'm going camping near Crater Lake in couple weeks and was wondering if there are any good trails in the area worth checking out? Doesn't need to be anything hardcore as my XJ is pretty mildly built and we most likely won't have any other vehicles going along. Even just some fire roads with...

Need definitive answer: replacing pinion yoke on Chrysler 8.25?

So I've searched on this topic but am still unclear... I need to replace the pinion yoke on my Chrysler 8.25 axle. What is the proper way to do this so as not to disturb the pinion bearing preload? Is there even a sure way to do it without opening up the pumpkin and installing a new crush sleeve...

Good air conditioning shop around PDX?

Been thinking of getting the a/c in the Jeep working this summer, anyone know of a good a/c shop in the general Portland area that is not too expensive? I really don't know what it'll take to get it working again, all the factory components are intact, it just blows warm air. I have no idea when...

Replacing door hinge pins on '84-'96 XJ's?

So I made a thread about this in the Paint & Bodywork forum, but have not really gotten an answer there. It doesn't look like many people visit that subform (I made the thread well over a month ago and it's still near the top of the page with only one reply besides my own). So I hope no one...

    Door window removal & replacement?

I want to replace my driver's side door window as it is badly scratched. I was at the JY yesterday and saw plenty of XJ's with good glass, but they all had power windows and were left with the window rolled up (no batteries in the vehicles of course), and as far as I can tell you need to be able...

Pic Request: Red XJ's with tinted windows

I'm wanting to get my windows tinted soon and am trying to decide how dark to go, so I'm asking other owners of red XJ's with tint to post a pic or two and state how dark your tint is. :) Feel free to mention if you like your tint or not with regard to visibility, both while driving and looking...

WTB: Fog Lights (Hella 500, KC, PIAA, etc)

I'm looking for a decent set of aftermarket fog lights such as Hella 500's, KC Slimlites or Apollo Pro's, or similar. Something good quality, 55 watts or so, round, 4-6" in diameter. Needs to be a fog type beam. They don't have to be new, just in decent shape, and I don't need any wiring...

Identify this diff? (Locker? Limited Slip?)

I found a guy selling what he says is an OEM XJ limited slip for a decent price, but he doesn't know if it's out of a D35 or an 8.25". He sent these pics, and to me it looks like more of a locker or some kind of aftermarket limited slip, but I don't really know. Can anyone tell me what kind of...

    Swaybar Disconnects

I'm running a set of the old style Rough Country swaybar discos and am not totally pleased with them, so I'm debating about either modifying them to work better or getting some different ones all together, probably JKS. The RC discos do not seem to fit very well at all. It seems like they should...

Replacing door hinge pins on pre-'97?

So I've done a lot of searching on this and have not come up with a clear solution. The passenger door on my '91 four door XJ drops down about 1/2" when you open it and has to be slammed pretty hard to close it. Obviously the door hinge pins need replacing but herein lies the problem...
