    Replace front leaf-spring mount?

Has anyone done this? In getting the bolt and welded nut out, I ended up doing a bit of a hack job on the mount. There's enough left hanging down to weld in some steel, but if a handy replacement is possible I'd rather do that.

    Smelly tree stump

I had a gigantic silver maple cut down last fall, and the stump is oozing some orangish, sticky crap (it's not sap) that is attracting flies. It also smells like rotting flesh and the smell is driving me, my wife, and my neighbors nuts. Several hours spent on Google just turned up that the...

    Wire size calculator

I'm getting ready to redo a bunch of wiring, and I thought I'd pass this little gem along. http://beta.circuitwizard.bluesea.com/

    New type of axle breather

What do you guys think of this? http://www.trail-gear.com/diff-breather.html I'm thinking about getting it to work with my 8.25" axle. That would eliminate quite a bit of hose.

    Too much trackbar movement?

It's torqued to spec., so should overtighten it or replace? EDIT: Oh, yeah. I know I need to replace the boot on the drag link, so thanks in advance for those who'd notice.

    Exhaust

Welds aside, does anyone see a problem with the angle the tailpipe is pointing? It's not pointed right at the brake line, nor is it pointing right at the diff., so I figured I'm good to finish welding it (and do a better job this time).

    Pelosi

Someone needs to get that broad a seatbelt. I liked Obama's speech, but dammit, Woman, stop getting up every eight seconds.

    Does anyone carry a vice?

I picked up a 4" bench vice at Menard's some time ago with the intention of making a mount for my receiver. Since then, I've been wondering about mounting it inside somehow. Anyone else have one on board?

What to check after a 40 mph "flop"

Sorry about not searching. I have a bit of a headache right now, and I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for anyway. Tonight I hit some black ice while going ~40 down a paved back road. The Jeep spun sideways and apparently hit dry pavement, which put the Jeep on its side. I don't...

    Winch clutch lever--not in use

I'm new to owning a winch, and while I've read the winch manuals of several manufacturers, I can't find anywhere where it states how the clutch should be positioned when it's not in use. Do I leave it in the engaged or disengaged position when it's not being used? Thanks in advance.

Want to trade roller fairlead for Hawse

I just put my new Smittybilt XRC8 winch on, and I want to do a straight trade (even including the shipping)--the roller fairlead for a new or good used Hawse fairlead. It just sticks out too far with my minute lift. It's only been used once to unspool and respool the cable. I'll take pics if...

    Tucking winch wiring

For those of you with winches, especially those whose winches sit pretty close to the grill, how or where do you tuck the wires that go from the solenoid pack to the motor? The ones that came with my winch seem awfully long for such a short run and consequently they form loops that stick out the...

    Winch cable question

I just got my first winch ever, and in setting it up I noticed that there is no thimble for the wire cable. Isn't it better to use one to prevent the wire from bending too sharply around the hook's pin? It's a Smittybilt XRC8, by the way. Seemingly a very nice winch. Thanks for any advice or help.

    Getting NSS off

I've read the threads, and my situation is a bit different in that the actual body of the switch separated from the base of the wiper arm. In other words, the switch itself is off, but the part that presses onto the shaft on the trans. is still there. My question is, how hard can I hit a...

    NSS Neutral Park Switch Sensor

I just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone looking up info. on the "NSS (Neutral Safety Switch)," as almost everyone refers to it. In the F.S.M.s that I have (1998, 1999, and 2000) it is referred to as the "Park/Neutral Position Switch." I know it's not hard to search for in the book...

    Hatchless daily driver?

I was on a recent snow run and smashed my tailgate ('99) by sliding backwards down a hill into a tree, and I've decided to go hatchless. The only problem with that is it's my D.D. and I have two small kids. How can I seal off the "real" interior from the hatch? I saw a pic. of Jes's once that...

    TreadWright (formerly High-Tec Retread) sizes

Just an F.Y.I. I got tired of reading conflicting reports of these tires' "true" sizes, so I simply e-mailed them. For many of you, these are too small to care about, but they may be indicative of how their tires run size wise. I asked about the 235 OTR, 30x9.5 Mud, and the 31 OTR. The response...

    Plug-wire routing

How important is it to have neatly routed plug wires? I understand the idea of crossfiring, but I thought that wasn't really a problem with modern plug wires. In other words, yes, my plug wires are a jumble, but they are wired correctly. The reason I ask is that I get bucking when letting off...

AzRick: Your P.M. box is full, so . . .

Rick (I assume), Could you possibly give me some info. regarding your rear bumper/crossmember? I looked at every pic. I can find of yours here and on your homepage, but I can't really tell what's going on there. I think if I could do something similar, I could reduce my departure angle a bunch...

    Need advice/help from regular rockcrawlers

This weekend I had my first opportunity to do some minor rockcrawling. It was great, to say the least. Aside from a minor disagreement my passenger-side front door had with a rock, the only damage I incurred (that I know of) is I managed to produce a lip on the outside edge of the axle-end LCA...
