1996 Nissan Pathfinder with seized parking brake

Good morning all, I'm helping out a buddy with his 1996 Pathfinder with rear disc brakes. The drivers side parking brake is completely locked up and is getting rocket hot. The cable is disconnected and has slack, but we are unable to get the rotor off since the shoes are not only grabbing it...

Gas tank blew a gallon of gas out, 4 feet stream while filling it

The worst part is you had to pay for all that gas on the ground :( --Andy

Stupid question... front U-joint without removing axle stub nut?

Thanks for the tips guys. Turns out the bolts that are rounded off are for the caliper mounting bracket, which luckily doesn't have to come off. After 4 hours of wrenching and using the power steering trick I got the hub and axle out. 2 more hours later I had the completely trashed u-joint out...

Stupid question... front U-joint without removing axle stub nut?

Doesn't really matter... got back under there and noticed that 2 of the 3 hub bolts and 1 of the 2 caliper bolts are completely stripped. Now I know why the U-joint wasn't replaced before. Looks like it's going to stay the way it is. --Andy

Stupid question... front U-joint without removing axle stub nut?

I realize this may be a stupid question. I have a very, VERY seized front axle stub nut and a bad U-joint. Is there ANY way possible to remove the stub and replace the joint without removing the nut? I thought that maybe if I removed the three star-headed bolts holding the backing plate on the...

Renix in Closed Loop at 120*

This is 100% the exact same behavior I had with a bad EGR valve. The computer was trimming fuel as if it was closed, but it was really open, making a big vacuum leak under power and backfiring on throttle. It would be worth looking at. --Andy PS My Thread...

"Normal" compression for beat 1989 4.0L?

Thanks for that birchlakeXJ. That's all I really wanted to hear. I knew it was in good shape, I didn't think it was in THAT good of shape. Time to continue the project! --Andy

"Normal" compression for beat 1989 4.0L?

Hey all - I am at a tipping point with my beater XJ. Before I put more money in to it for maintenance (rear leafs, brakes all around, front U joint, full fluids all around), I wanted to get an idea of the strength of the engine. This is a 1989 4.0L - non-HO. I can't find what are considered...

How to crank '89 Cherokee from under the hood?

Hey all, I'm troubleshooting an ignition issue and was wondering how I could crank the engine from under the hood. I have an '89 RENIX XJ with the old-style starter relay next to the battery. Here is a drawing showing the pins: My first intuition is to turn the key on ON and short...

How does the stock spare tire mount?

Stupid question... My XJ has what I think are all of the pieces for the spare tire mount, but I can't figure out how to get it to mount in the cargo area. Does anyone have any pictures or can you walk me through how to secure it down? Thanks! --Andy

First mod: Husky Helper Spring install on my 1989 XJ! (pics)

Yea, I debated where to put it because I thought the opposite. This is the first of many, however nothing too extreme. This is a utility rig. My hope is to pick up a second XJ soon, in nicer shape, to have fun with. I realize this is a better solution. My goal was quick, fast, and easy. This...

First mod: Husky Helper Spring install on my 1989 XJ! (pics)

Evening, This is our victim, my 1989 XJ. 197,600 miles - purchased for $500. It had a pretty good case of butt-sag when I got it. Overloading it with about 600 pounds of firewood didn't do any good. Initial measurements gave me 29.5 inches from the ground to the bottom of the rear fender...

1992 Cherokee runs like junk, ready to burn it down

Does that year 4.0L have an EGR valve? I had the same symptoms from a failing/failed EGR valve. --Andy

    renix running very rich

If it's running rich, and the computer thinks it's lean, I think you have pegged your problem. Something with the O2 sensor or harness to the O2 sensor. 14C doesn't sound right for the intake charge temp either. With the engine cold it should read what ever the outside temperature is. Normal...

    renix running very rich

If the O2 sensor is reading near 5V it's bad. Rich should be making it read close to 0V. Part of your problem. Is the brick reading RICH or LEAN? What is it saying for Intake Charge Temp? --Andy

Help: Need Door Lock for 89 XJ LTD

$16 on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180811382748&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:1123 As long as you don't need an intake air temp sensor, everything on your Jeep is available on eBay and probably less than $40 per piece. --Andy

    What is This Vacuum Line?

Ditto. Looks like a previous owner stumbled across the vent tube for the front diff, thought it was a vac line, and plugged it. Not a huge problem... it really should be open and turned downward to equalize the pressure. EDIT: It also may have a filter cap on it and be OK as it is.... lol. --Andy

    Broken Fan Shroud

Quick related question... this goes around the belt-driven fan, correct? Not the electric? My XJ didn't have a shroud around the belt-driven fan, hoping I can pick this up to replace it. Thanks! --Andy
