    AW4 wont shift

I had a similar issue on my '89. Turned out to be a faulty throttle position sensor. A friend who's a ChryCo mechanic found it for me. I would never have thought the two would be related.

The front output yoke bolts,(4), are part # 6029582 at your local stealership. They should have them in stock. Cheers.

    Rear interior clunk?

Do you have a skid-plate over your gas tank?(Factory or aftermarket). My '98 had a clunk that drove me crazy, turned out to be when the P/O installed a skid-plate, he never re-torqued it. It was just loose enough to make noise over potholes and such.

    Do I need heater treater?

Tom, you can check if your thermostat's working by looking at your temp gauge,(if it's working). If it never goes above 150*-ish, then it's probably stuck open. You didn't say it was overheating, so it's probably not stuck closed. After it has run for several minutes, check the upper hose, it...

    Chirp, Chirp...Bad water pump? Pulley?

The e-fan has two 8mm bolts at the top, and two tabs on the bottom that lock into place. After you remove the two bolts, just wiggle it from side to side when pulling upward on it and it will come right out. Just be sure to disconnect the plug first.

    Chirp, Chirp...Bad water pump? Pulley?

JHumphrey, My '98/4.0 has been doing the same thing. Only when it's less than 60*F outside. I've been chasing it since last year on and off. New belt, new idler pulley, no difference. As stated above, the belt has to be a lot tighter than you'd think.

    Reverse light issue

I do have a hitch, and the wiring for that is the simple flat-4 plug and play. It doesn't have the reverse circuit in it. I have the reverse, (br/lg), wire going to the tail light sockets traced back to the front kick panel where the junction block is. It's very tight under there, just having...

    Reverse light issue

'98 XJ, 4.0L. AX15, 4WD. I have a short in the reverse light circuit. I got a check engine light that threw 3 codes,(P1491,P0545, & P0443). All linked to fuse #10, which my owner's manual says is blank. Blown 15a fuse. Replaced it and reset the check engine light. All good until I put it in...

    Help with steering problem

Problem solved. The adjuster screw on the top of the gear box was broken off inside and the piece was wedged against the shaft causing the heavy drag I was feeling. (How that happened I'm not sure). $2 at the J/Y and it turns like new again. Thanks everyone for your responses. Jim

    Help with steering problem

Just tried turning lock to lock and pinning it. No noticeable change in pump noise. You can barely hear it, and when you crank on it at full lock it doesn't get any louder.

    Help with steering problem

I've searched, answer not found. I hope you guys can help. I have a '98 XJ with 4.5" lift and 33's. Lately my steering feels really "tight". It's not binding, it just does not return to center after a turn anymore. I checked the play in the gearbox, that's ok. Had alignment checked, it's in...

    1998 Cherokee airbag light

Exactly. I just used a pair of needle-nose pliers. Mine had a bit of play in it causing some gauges to quit every now and then. Don't know if it was wear, or poor quality build. After just slightly twisting each prong in the connector,( I forget how many there are-12?), it now has a little...

    1998 Cherokee airbag light

Ghetto, it sounds like the wiring harness connection to your dash is either loose or has corroded. Both are easy fixes... remove the gauge cluster and clean the connections and see if it needs to be tightened up. I have been able to tighten the connection by giving each blade in the connector a...

    1998 Cherokee airbag light

My airbag light came on sporadically, then eventually stayed on in my '98. Horn worked fine the entire time,(no cruise). It was the Clock-spring. Easy to replace yourself. Just get a known good replacement.
