    What needs made?

A buddy of mine is a machinist/fabricator and can build damn near anything. He makes turbo mounts for VWs, disk brake brackets for hondas, wheel spacers for anything with tires, and assorted other bits and pieces. I am having him make some parts that I will sell on the side for some extra cash...

Side to side slop in U-joint yoke

The ujoint in my front driveshaft at the pinion end is moving side to side in the yoke, caps and all. It is enough that at low speed you can hear it flopping side to side. The tabs the retain the u-joint are there, but they don't seem to be holding the u-joint tight. Any idea if I need...

rocker replacement * unusual question *

Every tech article I've seen on replacing the rockers with box tubing shows the pinch weld left in place and the new rocker welded to it. While this works well, it dictates how much clearance you can gain. What I want to do is fold the inner piece of metal and pinch weld upward and outward so...

    Occasional engine cut-out, code 41.

91 XJ, 4.0, standard tranny. Every now and then my engine cuts out completely for a second, then comes back on. It's like the ignition was switched off then back on. The check engine light usually comes on when this happens and sets code 41, which has something to do with the alternator...

    Speedo failure causes stalling?!?

This is a wierd one. My speedo sometimes works and sometimes does not. When the speedo is working the engine runs fine. When the speedo is not working then the engine drops the revs to zero and stalls when I push the clutch in. Any good ideas?

RE arms- do you need the special tool for the joints?

I bought some used RE lower control arms and they thunk when going from forward to reverse and back, so I'm thinking the ball joint is worn out. Can you take them apart without the special tool they sell? Has anyone replaced the RE joint with the Daystar joints? I ask because a buddy has a...

vibration fix - t-case output bushing

I have had minor vibration issues with my XJ since I got it, even before I lifted it. Lifting it made it WAY worse, but all my angles seemed fine. Replace both drive shaft U-joints and they lasted 2,000 miles before they were toast. I had noticed there was a fair bit of slop in where the...

For Real Steal/Daystar Pre-runner bumper review

No pics yet, need to get them developed. Here's the manufacturer's shot: The short story is that this is a "light duty" pre-runner style bumper. If you want a light weight winch bumper for desert running, going fishing, or simply zipping down fire roads it will do the job great, and the...

    Auminum flares?!?

A shop near me could make aluminum flares for my XJ. They would look similar to TJ flares, but made to fit the XJ body. Advantages are that they would be a perfect fit, would be exactly the width I want, and would would be unique. Disadvantage is that they would not flex when banged on...

    33x10.5" front and 33x12.5" rear?

What's your thoughts on using 10.5" wide 33s in the front and 12.5" wide in the rear? My thoughts are that this will let me maximize my turning radius and still have the extra traction of the 12.5" wide tire in the rear.

    Rubicon TJ t-case into a 91 XJ?

I can get a deal on a T-case from a rolled Rubicon. Aside from drive shafts is it a straight bolt-in?

installed TJ sway bar links on my 91 XJ

With 3.5" of lift my stock sway bar links were way too short, not to mention that they were rusted out and ready to snap off any second. The TJ links are not a stright bolt-in, but not hard to do. I took a washer from the stock link and slid it onto the threads of the TJ link as far down as it...

D30 and D44 use the same pinion yoke

A U-joint went on my drive shaft and damaged the pinion yoke on my D44. In my efforts to try to get my rig running I tried using the pinion from a D35C, but it didn't match. My buddy then suggested checking the yoke on my old D30 front. I went "nah, that would be nuts", but checked it anyway...

Spring perch as adjustable bump-stop pad?

Here's my nutty idea of the week: Rather than try to unbolt (and no doubt break off) the rear bump-stops on my 91 I am thinking of welding a new spring pad to the axle where the bump-stop contacts it. Before I put the pad on I will weld nuts into it so that I can tweak the bump-stop extension...

32s and 31s, mixed gear ratios. Am I insane?

I can get a ford 8.8 cheap with 3.73 gears, but I can't afford right now to change my front 3.55 gears. What I could do is run 32s on the rear and 31s on the front. This would have my front tires spinning slightly faster than the rears in 4wd so I would have to be careful about when and where I...
