Recommend a headlight upgrade? '98 XJ

This is just misinformation. A point source of light is a point source of light regardless if it's from a filament or an arc. This crap about having to have special reflectors just isn't so. Light reflects off of a mirror. The mirror doesn't care what makes the light. It doesn't bounce off...

Recommend a headlight upgrade? '98 XJ

Actually, that's exactly what I did. I bought halogen h4 housings and placed HID H4 style replacement bulbs in them. Mine are dual HID which just really means there is a shutter that moves to cover/uncover part of the filament when you want low beam only. They ARE designed so that the...

    offset ball joints

Side note, if you do use the adjustable ball joint, use it to full adjustment. If you use any other angle you'll throw off camber.

Mushy Brake Pedal / Brake Light on Issue

If you have bled the breaks that much and are sure you don't have a leak, my money is on improperly assembled/adjusted rear brakes. If they aren't held in relatively close approximation, (via star adjuster) then they have to move quite a bit every time you press the brakes before they make...

    Thermostat housing and rtv

I had trouble with the thermostat housing leaking on my '94 4.0 several years ago. I got to looking and it appears there were enough imperfections in the housing to cause trouble. It's pretty soft metal. I used a piece of sand paper over a flat plane to freshen the surface. I've had no...

Brakes- booster/MC crapped out, debating swap to synthetic fluid during swap

It's my understanding that DOT3 and 4 are 100% compatible and synthetic doesn't change that. Now, go to silicone DOT5 and things get a little different. I realize this is at variance with what the previous poster says. Nevertheless, my 2 cents.

Need help. Thermostat gasket won't seal

I'm thinking the gasket goes on the head side of the thermostat though I'm not sure about that. Whichever side the thermostat is on is recessed for it. I do remember I had some trouble with mine once. I got looking at the thermostat housing and noticed that it wasn't particularly flat or smooth...

Is my AC the new or old stuff

Look at the fittings on the compressor. If they look like schreader fittings, then it's r12 or at least not been converted to r134a. If it looks a bit like the quick disconnect fittings you are used to seeing with air compressors, then it's r134a.

    front end clunking when turning

Is it one pop at each turn or does it pop repeatedly so long as you hold the turn?

Anyone else? Fuel pump failed 7 times now in a year

You are changing the filter sock while you're at it, right? You probably are, but just not overlooking the simple stuff.

    Advice needed: Driver's side camber

#30 are the ball joints. You can get them for different degrees of offset if everything is tight.

    Propane system

I'd think it would be worth a lot more sold with the Jeep. I bet for the difference you could easily find a replacement regular gasoline Cherokee. Just something to think about.

    "Twist off" How ironic.

    Rear brake shoes

Might depend on if the brake cylinder is at the top or bottom of the wheel.

Help please 4WD and Brakes not working

You said: "when we took off the tires we saw that one brake caliper was missing the bleeding attachment that is used to bleed the brake" That's troubling. If you mean the bleed screw then you dumped all of your brake fluid somewhere. You'll have to bleed the entire system. If there is air in...

Stock Manual to Power Seat Swap?

A question about the newer seats. I have a 94 and one of my main gripes is that the seats recline like airline seats. Do the newer seats recline farther?

    A/C swap (R12 to R134a)

I've done two r12 to r134a swaps, my 94 Cherokee being one of them. All I've done is hook up a vacuum pump to void the system as best as I can, then refill with 134a. There are readily available adapters for the ports. I've gone 5+ years with my converted XJ with out so much as a hiccup...

    Blower motor questions

I went to change my blower motor a few years ago. I got one from the parts house, bolted it up, plugged in the wiring harness and all. Fired it up and it just wasn't pushing much air. Upon close inspection I discovered that it spun the wrong way. I took it back and the guy at the parts...

Rear brakes won't self adjust, Chry. 8.25

As far as I can tell, it's basically a design flaw. Ever so often, I jack up a wheel, pop that little rubber plug, and adjust them myself with a screwdriver.

    Broken Fan Shroud

Nevermind. I went back to that site and searched for my year model and it shows the same thing. Actually it shows that one and one where the whoop part is rather off center compared to the mounting points. Pretty sure I want the more centered one. Besides, it's cheaper by about half.
