This may not be your problem .... but it was mine.
I had an intermittent squeak, sometimes it could be induced by turning the wheels left or right, and at times it could be induced when I braked.
Sometime it did not occur at all.
For me it was the right REAR brake. Turns out the Previous...
I had the same problem with mine.
I knew it had nothing to do with temperature, engine heating.
It was clearly an electro-mechanical problem.
In my case the connector on the sending unit was BROKEN.
New sending unit and all is well.
Actually in my case it was sorta backwards, when I sat at...

Take your dash apart.
Pull out carefully the Heat/AC controller.
Look at the SWITCH on the back of the controller.
Notice how burnt it looks.
Every XJ I have looked at prior to 1997 model year has had a burnt switch.
All of the failed switches I have looked at have the same issue. The...
I vote for 1996
I own both a 1995 and a 1996
The 1995 is a nice unit, in great shape ... took nothing to get it road ready. ( front brake pads )
But the 1996 is OBDII and that can be a plus.
I use a bunch of very small nuts, and washers.
Actually have a container of them for that very purpose. ( cleaning out plastic containers )
My daughter raises rabbits and over time the water bottles get algae growing in them.
I toss in the nuts, washers, and some water ..... shake it up, pour...
Began tearing down a 96 XJ SE to do a restoration of it and try to bring it back to factory spec sand it looks like someone did a little hammer modulation frame repair where the front bumper mounts to the frame.
I would like to be able to undo what they did, ( looks like they tried to bang it...
I had a similar issue on another vehicle. Odd pulsing of the back brakes. I found a plastic insert in an ebrake cable support had self destructed allowing the cable to vibrate and thus pulse the brake.
All I can give you is this .....
743 Torque converter clutch (part throttle unlock) solenoid circuit problem - shift solenoid C electrical fault
753 Overdrive solenoid control circuit problem (transmission relay circuit in Jeep RE transmissions.)
Maybe that can get you started?
Have you tried removing the new grounds, one at a time to see if one of them is somehow effecting the idle?
Take off one, check idle.
If idle still rough, reinstall the ground and remove the second new one.
If idle is still rough, remove them both and check the idle.
That will show if it is...

This one needed the rear brakes...
Yeah I am beginning to think along those lines.
Pulled out one of the new ( rotary ) controllers from a late model and to me it looks like that is what Jeep did. I base this on the fact that the individual contacts on the newer ones are much smaller, thus carry less current.
I realize the...
Been through every XJ in every junk yard and all I am finding are BURNT connectors on the wiring harness to the HVAC Fan Control Switch.
All of the problems are right on the back of the connector, unless there has been a fire I have not seen one where the wiring 1" behind the connector has been...
This is what scares me most about doing mods like lifts.
5-10 years down the road, you'll need parts.
Will they be available?
I guess one could always buy a full set of 'spares' like bushings, but then when you have everything you think could wear out or break in a set of spares...
Considering the current draw of LED versus standard incandescents I was wondering about running a 2-4 strips of high output LEDS in place of what was up there already. Maybe even more, making them switchable individually or in pairs.
I have seen some nice high output LED kits at motorcycle shows.
Well let me ask this.
After you pull the headlight switch to the running lights position and the fuse blew killing instrument lights and radio power, did the running lights remain on?
Somehow the added current of that circuit contributed to the overload condition that blew the fuse.
I don't...
Not sure what it is, but I can say this.
If you replaces a 10 AMP fuse with a 15 AMP fuse you are allowing more current on the circuit that it was designed for. Do that long enough, and something will probably burn up before the fuse blows.
You really should NOT over fuse a circuit unless you...
