I appears that this may be uncharted territory based on replies and the lack of information on the interwebz. I am going to attempt to stuff the A hoop and dash bar behind the dash.
If successful I will post up pics and info on the build.
If I fail...uhh well I am not err its not an option:gee:
I am finally going to build a cage in my 96xj. I plan to do a somewhat hybrid design. Full interior cage with a hoop on the roof. I have looked at quite a few builds to get an idea where I want to go with this.
My question is can I install the A hoop tight to the pillar and tuck it behind tthe...
Mr. WU is one of those guys that has more money than brains. That said, I do like some of the ideas the show has like the log on the broken axle. Not that it is a new invention, but it is one that we wheelers can certainly, and have used to get to camp. I guess i am just tired of the morons who...
yep you are correct.Pardon my ignorance, i was in the heat of the moment this morning watching Mr. WU perform his idiocy and hadto find an immediate outlet to vent.
Next time i will take time to research more.
OR, is it "one reality show too far"?
Most reality shows are garbage and this one is no exception. This is a show about a Bear grylls type guy, and a kalifornian "Expert car guy".
They take a jeep into the wilderness and try to drive it out.
Now I will admit it is mildly entertaining and...
I actually scored a front/rear axle set out of a 88 grand wagoneer. I then traded my 8.8 for an Isuzu d44 so I could have 4.30's and disc brakes. Now all that is needed for the rear is to strip the existing perches and other hardware then install my spring perches and build the front.
I am...
Well I have once again went another direction. This afternoon I called the wreckin yard where I originally bought my 8.8 and asked if they had an isuzu d44.
They have one with 4.30's and disc brakes. I was able to trade my 8.8 for it. So I now have a waggy front and an Isuzu d44. Seems like the...
I recently scored f/r d44 axles from an 88 grand Wagoneer. I am in the process of gathering parts for the build.
I would like to convert the rear axle to discs. There is plenty of info on this however, I am not sure if I can still use 15" rims. I seen one writeup similar to...
Update
A buddy of mine found a craigslist post of an 88 grand wagoneer being parted out. I called the guy and ended up picking up both axles for $250. The good thing is they are both D44's and the bad, I have to sell my rims eventually and buy the 6 lug rims. Overall I think I got a good deal...
It's looking good. You have a good eye for details.
Wish i had seen the thread before you swapped the alt. I just completed an alt upgrade to a 136 amp v8zj. They are nearly painless to install. Simple mod and wiring/bolt patterns match. Oh well something to keep ya busy in the future.
200lbs+ I would advise getting help. They are not only heavy but also awkward to handle alone. Do your back and future quality of life a favor and get help.
I talked with a buddy yesterday who is in the same club. He recommended the Isuzu/waggy combo too. This seems like the best option for my needs. My plan is to score the axles and build them as money allows. In the meantime I will use the lincolnocker 8.25 and throw in a lunchbox for the turdy...
Based on opinions, I may keep the 8.25 and build the d30. Seems that may be the most painless way to go. I don't want to mess with the bolt pattern woes of the waggy axle at this point. I can always install the d30 in another xj in the future for one of my sons should I decide to upgrade.
What would be another option instead of a waggy frontend? I've read the d30, debates but I don't really want to soak that much money into one if there is another reasonable option that has the original wheel pattern.
I currently have a d30 open and 3.55's and 8.25 Lincoln locked. I have an 8.8 waiting to be built. I don't have a big budget to build the 8.8 w/ eaton locker and regearing both at this time.
I would like to regear both, install an Aussie up front and spool the rear. I hear that a spool requires...
This method helps but can cause a swirling effect that can potentially allow the fumes to contact you.
The way I have my welding safety controls set up here at work is to place the fan to the side of you in order to get the breeze to blow between you and the weld face. The fan only has to...
