    1999 Cherokee Sport

Hey Charles, I'm helping a friend look for a rig and yours seemed like about the right build level. I know it's gone, but are you will to share what it went for? Trying to determine if my friend's 7-10k budget is reasonable. Thanks -Joel (aka Frijolee)

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Yo John, glad it helped. FWIW, I’m a guy digging for reviews just like you are. I have a mental list of NAXJA authors whose opinions I treat as gold, so I’m trying to add to the knowledge base and push the envelope just a bit further. Even as forums slowly dwindle, they’re still the best...

My jeep build with photos over the last few years.

Just stopping by to say I love this build and all the DIY shenanigans within. Anyone who's willing to build their own stuff is pretty damn solid in my book. Nice lookin fab bench too. Did you make that as well?

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Picking up the story… At this point I’ve been over the intake/exhaust mani install several times and it looks good. However, it’s killing me that the P0171 code and stumbling/choking behavior is unchanged. I decide I’m not going to spend more time chasing a ghost leak, so it’s time to find...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Negative. Solved that before even trying to run. I've been tinkering with cars for 25 years and I learned something I outright never knew. You want the answer or is the story worth waiting for? There's more. :-) I'm super jealous you have resources like Russ to lean on. There's nothing...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Nope. Not the header's fault. Banks was my second choice but I'm not a fan of their merge. I think you said your builder spec'ed it for your rig yeah? Beautiful coating work, BTW. Are you up and running yet? Curious on whether you can tell a difference on heat management. So far I'm...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

By the way, the reason my jeep was still running like hell and potentially the critical detail that I missed was already shown in one of the pics from the last few posts above. Can you spot it? :bawl: -Joel

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Now? Damn nice. At this point in the story? Like a farting wildebeest with the runs... (A.K.A. ABSOLUTE SH--). Header's in, install looks good, so why does it still run like poo? I drove it to a friend’s house maybe 10 miles away and it was coughin and stumbling the entire way. Looking...

Reflected pulse wave tuning is the other reason for intentional changes in cross sections. It makes the most difference in long tube headers when you can take advantage of valve overlap. Long tubes would be hard for us to package though, you'd need primaries 40+ inches long. If you're into...

The end all Exhaust/ Header thread!

Following up on the big exhaust theory write-up I added to this thread a while back (https://www.naxja.org/forum/showpost.php?p=246730884&postcount=44) I'm finally posting detail reviews of the AFE Twisted Steel header in my build thread here...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Thanks Anak... I partly do the write ups to entertain myself, but I know when I'm researching parts buying myself, writeups and practical experiences from others are gold so I try to pay it forward. First impressions on the AFE Twisted Steel Header (PN 48-46201) It’s nice. I kinda feel...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Well, the Jeep is finally back up and running—pretty much the best it ever has--but damn it was a lot of work. Coming up: -Detailed AFE header review (cracked manifold replacement) -Chasing exhaust leaks -How to break a fuel hardline -Further troubleshooting a code P0171 -Critical stuff I...

Folding rear fender pinch seam without slotting?

The slotted tool and forming approach may have been my thread. I'm often trying to push the envelope and build stuff just a little bit nicer than has been done before. Rears: https://naxja.org/forum/showpost.php?p=246367481&postcount=282 Fronts...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Very welcome, of course. I actually find that writing this stuff down helps me remember what the hell I did later when it's time for the next project and I did the research for this one. Paint. For starters, nothing beats two part automotive paint. Primer, base color, clear... with a good...

The end all Exhaust/ Header thread!

I thought I'd take a crack at the "end all exhaust / header thread". I'll be stealing quite a bit of info from write-ups scattered throughout my build thread. https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1081640 FWIW, I'm a bit of a geek and have developed some pretty distinct opinions over...

Thanks for the comments. I think my MORE mounts are okay, but if I ever need someone else, I think Stinkfab is a pretty rad company so good to know they're doing mounts too. I can't comment on flow for Banks vs. Thorley since the designs are so different. I ruled out the Doug Thorley's early...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Sold out to me! It should be here on Wednesday. For what it's worth the actual cheapest price I found was through these guys: https://mbenzgram.com/products/afe-48-46201-1-5-14-gauge-409-stainless-steel-twisted-header-for-jeep-wrangler-l6-4-0l?variant=36092549922971 MBenz had it for...

    Joel's multipurpose XJ build (rocks/boulevard)

Thanks for the kind words y'all. The Jeeps been pretty solid and I've been wheeling it quite a bit. I did manage to crack an exhaust header though. Not sure if it's because I've been wheeling wet or if it was just time. Results from the latest run (this was just puddles on the way back out...

Thanks for the tips, that's rad. My rig had fog lights but they're long gone. I've actually been trying to figure out how to use the factory switch remaining to drive power to a light bar. A friend gave me a curved 52" bar and it looks kinda fun for night running.
