Buick Century chronic harmonic balancer problem

Oops, no, I should've specified -- it's the 3.3 V6. 1992 Buick Century "Custom" (garden variety). Sorry I forgot to mention that! One side gets closer to the timing cover & the other side farther. Definitely. Doesn't appear off-center at all. Interesting. This ugly beast does have an...

Buick Century chronic harmonic balancer problem

Need some help/input: What could cause a harmonic balancer to repeatedly go bad? When I say, "go bad," I mean it starts to wobble & make a lot of clatter. Also seems to destroy crankshaft position sensors. The first time this happened, I let it get to the point where the crank sensor was...

Jeep 2500 Parts... I found them here...

Has anyone thought to ask about rear disc brakes off the 2500? I believe they're using the same 8.25" axle that most stateside XJs have...

    Looking for Parts

Junkyard, unless you are opposed to that kind of thing. If you want new stuff, well, if you don't have/don't want an airbag, you can usually get all kinds of steering wheels from www.summitracing.com. Not sure about the seatbelt... Why would you want a factory radio/head unit? It will cost...

    99 XJ question

Bearings usually make noise when accelerating or turning, or coasting, or any time the wheel is turning, but to my knowledge they will not cause shuddering (the brakes are the most likely culprit).

    Bump Stop Oil?

Heh. I've been driving around with one missing (frt passenger side, I think) for, well, since I bought the thing used. A few times, I've felt the axle make contact with the bump stop mount/tube thingy. Just be gentle, and you hardly need one. If you're going to thrash it, then you'll...

Part Number Request-power steering pressure hose

Awesome. Thanks! NAXJA saves the day (again).

    Thanks esp. 5-90, & XJ4PLAY, & others -- O2 sensor problem fixed

I don't think so, I'm pretty sure that sucker is welded on there. I'm not near my Jeep right now, so I can't confirm that, but I'm pretty sure the only thing that's removable is the nut that holds the ground wires on. I'll try to post a picture in the near future, since I get questions about...

Part Number Request-power steering pressure hose

Anybody have the part number for a 1996 4.0L power steering high-pressure hose? (The upper hose, not the lower/return hose.) I'm also having trouble finding a place to buy one from. The idiot AutoZone nearby claims they can't order one. Napa said they had one, then said they didn't...

    Thanks esp. 5-90, & XJ4PLAY, & others -- O2 sensor problem fixed

Eyelets were on the ground end, attached to the engine block with a nut. (circuit is grounded on the bracket for the oil pan dipstick, above and behind the distributor and/or oil filter, on the passenger side of the engine, grounded right on the block) Also, for what it's worth, the dealer's...

Pic request - Engine bay component mounting

Not 100% sure these photos will be helpful. These are of my '96 XJ In the first, you can see the fusebox & canister (canister labeled) -- both are attached to the fender with brackets: Here's the front bracket on the fusebox: Here you can kind of see the bracket for the charcoal canister:

    Jeep bad wiring rage...

It has a relay? If so, where is it? I swapped around some of the relays in the PDC a few days ago without any ill effect, but I didn't look at any relays outside of the PDC. I'm wondering whether the cat circuit is the O2 sensor in the cat? If so, I think it's grounded in the same place the...

    input/opinions on no-spark condition

I am going to go out on a limb, and say that the shuddering/misfiring/stalling problem has been fixed by adding the insulating tape to the coil wires. I've driven over 200 highway miles, and 30 city miles, since. Thanks guys. And now... (I predicted this) a new wiring problem has turned up...

    Jeep bad wiring rage...

... I'm feelin' it. The CEL light came on, on the way to work today, and doing the ignition key trick, I pulled a code 72 from the computer, which, according to my info, indicates a problem with the "Catalytic Converter Circuit." 1) if anyone can confirm that 72 = cat converter circ, I'd...

    input/opinions on no-spark condition

I took the coil input connector pigtail apart & it was fine: the wires were firmly attached to their respective terminals, and were not touching ea. other. However, further along their length they were rubbing. One expects that the insulation on ea. wire would prevent shorting, but, like I...

    input/opinions on no-spark condition

You may have won the prize with this guess. I was reading in another forum where somebody had a bad input wire to the coil, where if you shook it while the Jeep was running it would mimic the symptoms. So I tried that, I wiggled the wires on the input connector on the coil, and the Jeep bogged...

    input/opinions on no-spark condition

Key-on: 41 psi at the rail. Idle: 50.5 psi at the rail. No fluctuations in pressure either. No problem there, I think. Oh, and the filter is just one month old. The problem is spark or timing, I think. The saga continues...

    input/opinions on no-spark condition

If the rain lets up, I'll let you know later today. In the meantime, I discovered a little play in the distributor shaft I didn't notice before. I can turn the rotor/shaft 1-2mm in each direction. Don't know whether that would cause my problems.

    input/opinions on no-spark condition

Well, (update) I replaced the CKS & got it running. Drove it about 10 miles & it started bucking again. Another 15 miles & it was bucking badly, lost power & had to pull over, whereupon it stalled. It restarted OK, so I slowly built up speed again, but it soon started bucking again. Made it...
