    Disappearing coolant

OK....plugs look good and I drove around 400 miles during which time the coolant level continued to disappear and the mayo form. So topped off with pint of Dike and new anti-freeze. Drove about 100 miles and no mayo or disappearing coolant. So I think I may have it solved but only time will...

    Disappearing coolant

Today I bought some stuff called "DIKE" at O'Reillys. Local Jeep and cooling system guru says that's the best. So I'm gonna give it a shot. But want to check plugs first which I haven't had a chance to do, then will add the DIKE. Thanks to all for your help.

    Disappearing coolant

Another good data point. Thanks. Right now I think I need to find out why the mayo. Now that I've received a good tutorial on pulling plugs I may do that next. Then take it to the local Jeep guy and see what he says. In the 75 miles it took to generate the slight mayo, the coolant tank...

    Disappearing coolant

Good long drive today....maybe 75 miles and came home. Let things cool down and took new filler cap off. A very light amount of mayo is there. Oil still looks like oil that needs to be changed (it has 2500 miles on it and I normally change at 3000). So.....my guess is that I have a minor...

    Disappearing coolant

OK...did that. No leaks! Can't find a drop. Will now let it cool and see if mayo has formed on underside of new oil filler cap.

    Disappearing coolant

I think I'll pull my plugs too and take a look. However, there's no apparent loss in power....runs great! Back to the mayo business. I am getting a little on the filler cap. Is this a definite sign of water in the oil? So many places for this stuff to show up. I don't mind fixing it, I...

I couldn't find any of those things, Joe. We looked.

    Disappearing coolant

Will do. The oil pressure has been fine and hasn't changed. Oil is getting dirty like it should. Mr. Jeep thought the oil looked fine too. FWIW, one of the first tests he did was fill the radiator to the top, and with the cap off I started the engine. He said that if there was a cracked...

    Disappearing coolant

Well I took it to the local Jeep expert and he doesn't think it's a cracked head. Looked high and low for evidence of leaks. Only thing he suspects is maybe the heater coil....but not sure. But he did find evidence of faulty radiator cap. So, I replaced that. He was not impressed with the...

    Disappearing coolant

Well I try not to be an idiot but sometimes I just can't help myself. Checked the cap today in the light and there's mayo for sure. Dang. So I guess this means I need a new head...right? Are the new ones any better than the originals? Is this an expensive project since I'll have to...

A good list of things to consider. Thanks.

    Disappearing coolant

I haven't noticed. How would I tell? I guess just start it in the garage and have a whiff? It sure seems normal to me.

    Disappearing coolant

No mayonnaise so this tells me it's not getting into the oil. Since I added water last night I checked the coolant tonight and with about 50 miles on the engine the radiator is full and the tank was half empty. But still no spillage that I can tell. Maybe on the road but not when stopped? I...

    Disappearing coolant

2000 indeed. Yelling is OK. I can't hear you here in my house....very nice and quiet. Will check the bottom of the cap.

    Disappearing coolant

My Jeep is a stock XJ, 4WD, 4.0L with 134,500 miles. Jeep starts and runs great....no problems. Except.....about every 700 miles I notice the engine running just a bit above normal in temp. When I check the coolant, the overflow tank is empty and the radiator is low. Last night I filled the...

WTB - 15" alloy wheels for 2000 Cherokee

My Jeep has 15" steel rims that are looking kinda ugly.....thought I might upgrade the wheels to go with the new Goodyears I just put on it. I am in Georgia.
